Ontario’s vaccination verification app — Verify Ontario — is now available to download on mobile app stores.

On Thursday, many eagle-eyed observers noticed that the Verify Ontario application had been uploaded to the Apple and Google app stores, though the government had made no previous announcement about the release.

According to Ivana Yelich, executive director of media relations for Premier Doug Ford, the app was released ahead of the scheduled date of Oct. 22 to ensure that it would be available to businesses and organizations “in real time,” ahead of an announcement by the premier on Friday morning.

The released app will be used by businesses and organization to scan QR codes and verify vaccination codes. The QR codes have not yet been released and will be provided by the Ministry of Health.

According to Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Public Health, public health agencies have been given no directives regarding the release of the application, and there is no expectation that businesses or organizations use the app to verify vaccination status ahead of Oct. 22.
